John Lyman, Howard Chung, Nicholas Yanni, Jean Luce, In the experiment, the researchers were able to make lab animals blink by directing a beam of invisible alpha radiation into the cornea of their eyes. This was one of several experiments underway in 1961 using particle beams to explore the brain.
